Delightful house, with terrace and garden with magnificent views of the Jaur valley. Sleeps 8 - 10. Near to medieval village of Olargues (Devil's Bridge), Gorges d'Heric (great walking), Orb Valley - canoeing, swimming. 1 hr to Mediterranean beaches. One of the most beautiful areas of France.
While many people look to this area for a summer holiday the spring season offers a wonderful succession of different blossoms turning the valley and orchards white. Autumn presents riots of colour in the contrasting deciduous/evergreen forests that clothe the valley sides and the brilliant kaleidoscope of colours in the vineyards- every colour from the palest greens to the most brilliant scarlets.

This delightful house has superb unimpeded views of the Jaur valley and the surrounding mountains. Situated in the Haut-Languedoc National Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty including the Gorge d'Heric, the Espinouse and close to the lakes of the Somail, with all their attendant water sporting activities.
The Jaur, Heric and Orb rivers offer excellent swimming and fishing opportunities while also offering spectacular, ever-changing scenery. Olargues holds the title of being one of France's prettiest villages and the Orb valley offers such treasures as Vieussan and Roquebrun with its fascinating Mediterranean garden. Activities in the area include canoeing, kayaking, horse riding and magnificent walking and rock climbing in every direction. If you exhaust the local attractions the beaches of the Mediterranean are only an hour away, as are numerous pre-historic and Roman sites.
DETAILS OF ACCOMMODATION
This delightful old house has been modernised and is on the southern edge of a beautiful hamlet ensuring all day sun and panoramic views over the Jaur valley.
The ground floor comprises of a large terrace which is partially glass enclosed facing South with sliding windows giving an all year round lounging area. From the entrance hall one turns right to enter a large sitting/dining room with a feature glass fronted stove. This room opens out into the enclosed verandah. Turning left in the hall the first door leads into a modern shower room which also includes a basin and bidet with all the necessary cupboards. Next door is the main double bedroom, which has a French window opening out onto the verandah. Between the sitting room and the hall is a very modern kitchen, which also opens onto the verandah through another French window giving easy access to outdoor eating. The kitchen is well equipped with an oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher and all the necessary crockery and utensils. A large fridge/freezer is located just a couple of steps away.
On the second floor there are two large interconnecting bedrooms each equipped with two single beds. One room faces South over the valley while the other room has a window facing East for the morning sun.
Steps leading from the main terrace give access to two delightful new bedrooms (one double bedroom, and one bedroom with 2 single beds) situated below the main terrace. The picture windows / French doors of these rooms make the most wonderful of views. These rooms share a new fully equipped bathroom (bath, shower, wash basin, bidet).
Underneath the house is a cave which includes a washing machine and laundry. Heating is available for the cooler winter months while the heat of the summer is ameliorated in the evenings by virtue of the altitude.(app.400 m.)
The garden/orchard of about half an acre contains numerous fruit trees (fig, pear, peach, apricot, apple, grapes, etc). If you are there in the season please do not let the fruit go to waste!
The house is fully equipped with new and extremely comfortable furnishings for both indoor and outdoor living.
The location is very private and cannot be overlooked. The neighbours are extremely helpful and friendly.

Violgues is situated about a 15 minute drive from Olargues at an altitude of 400 m. Olargues is situated on a wide bend of the Jaur and offers various shops and restaurants with two excellent boulangeries, a butchers and other essential shops. The village also includes a large interpretative center, which offers many interesting activities. The Devils bridge is spectacular as is the old church which is accessed through the narrow old streets.
One could also swim at many points on the river. About 10 minutes from Olargues travelling towards Bedarieux one comes to Mons la Trivaille which is a major centre for hillwalking and rock-climbing in the spectacular scenery of the Gorge d Heric which appears as a giant sabre slash through the mountains. The gorge offers remarkable beauty and every opportunity to walk, hike climb or swim in crystal clear pools.
Just beyond Mons is the tiny hamlet of Tarrassac with its suspension bridge, beaches and canoe bases. In the other direction one can travel through the lovely villages of St.Etienne and Riols before arriving at the old town of St. Pons which offers a wide range of shops and boasts an excellent street market every Wednesday.
THE SURROUNDING AREA
Roquebrun: This delightful village has a beautiful and extensive beach on the Orb river from which you can swim or canoe. The village also boasts the interesting Mediterranean garden built up the hillside above the village thus also offering magnificent views up and down the valley.
Lamalou-les-Bains: This is a famous spa town with numerous curative springs and a host of other amenities including a casino, restaurants, a golf course and a riding school.
St.Chinian:This is a small town with numerous shops and restaurants and an excellent market held on Sundays in the large shaded square lined by the Marie which looks out onto formal gardens. This is an area renowned for its remarkable wines as is the whole area of Faugeres and the Minerve which are all easily accessible.
Beziers: A beautiful city on the Canal du Midi with a most attractive main square lined with cafes and restaurants and famous for the summer festival and the bullfighting and rugby traditions.
Other areas of great interest are Pezenas, Montpellier, the Montagne Noire, Carcassonne, Narbonne and really too many other attractions to enumerate.
ACCESS
Airlines fly frequently to the local airports- Montpellier, Nimes, Carcassone and Perpignan. Ryanair (ryanair.com) flies daily from Stanstead and now offers frequent flights from Charleroi (Belgium) and Hahn in the vicinity of Frankfurt. The excellent French railway system (TGV) has a main station in Beziers while Narbonne is an autorail station. Ryanair has a new hub in Girona with frequent flights from numerous airports in Italy, the UK, Belgium, Ireland, France, Germany and Sweden. Girona is situated adjacent to the motorway giving easy access to Violgues (3 hours).

Violgues house rental: prices are based on sterling but other currencies are accepted at rates ruling at the time. Rentals commence on Saturday and a deposit equivalent to GB£100 is required at time of booking. Final payment including a laundry/cleaning charge of GB£45 per 4 or less persons, increasing by £10 pounds per extra person is due 8 weeks before the commencement of the let.
