![]() This cozy little village house at the end of a tiny lane, is just a few steps from the Canal du Midi, in Poilhes, a listed village in the Languedoc. On the ground floor is a fully equipped open-planned kitchen leading to the living/dining room with wood beamed ceiling. Living room with stairs to bedrooms and terrace Traditional terracotta tiled floors are throughout the house. Shower/WC is on the main floor as well as a washing machine. Door onto terrace from bedroom The second floor has two connecting double bedrooms, each with a double bed. French doors in the first bedroom lead to the terrace, which overlooks the roof of the old village château. This bedroom also has a loft with skylight and a single bed. The loft is accessible by ladder, which would suit a child over 9 or 10 years. The house as a whole would not suit very young children. The house has been tastefully furnished, with comfort being a priority. All linens (100% organic cotton sheets) are provided. There is a CD player available if you wish to bring your favourite music. |

POILHES AND SURROUNDING AREA The village of Poilhes is divided in half by the Canal du Midi, which was built in the mid-1600's. The house is in the oldest part of the village situated to one side of the canal. On this side of the canal are two fine restaurants, one serving haute cuisine and overlooking the canal. The other fine restaurant with terrace is steps from the house. There is also a tapas restaurant. A small store selling fresh fruit, vegetables and other basic goods as well as a mobile morning bread delivery service the village. Twenty minutes walk through the vineyards or a 5 minute drive will take you to a town with 2 open air markets, a supermarket and other small shops. On a warm day, take a slow boat ride or bicycle along the tow paths and visit many other villages along the canal. Beziers, renowned for its flower market and festival in August is 15 minutes as well as Narbonne, with its Cathedral, Roman remains, and market. The Mediterranean is similarly close, with many miles of fine bathing on sandy beaches. For those with a fascination for the castles, Cathars, and stunning scenery, sights include Carcassonne, within easy driving as is Minerve, a village astride two deep gorges. ACCESS It is within easy driving distance of International airports - Beziers/Cap d'Agde (30 mins), Montpellier (60 mins), Carcassonne (60 mins), Toulouse (2 hours) and Barcelona (3.5 hours).
