DETAILS OF ACCOMMODATION Maison Thomas has been traced back at least 350 years. Its interior was completely rebuilt about 10 years ago, faithful to the style and atmosphere of a traditional French village house. Now, it offers comfortable accommodation for up to six persons. In the heart of the oldest part of St Chinian, it is ideally located for you to explore all of the features and attractions that Languedoc-Roussillon offers. From inside the front door, the steep narrow stairs of the old house lead to the two bedroom floors. To the left is the spacious living/dining area, with a sofa and two easy chairs, and a dining table that will easily seat 6. There is a mini stereo with CD, radio and cassette player (and a selection of tapes in case you did not bring your own), and broad band internet access. Down a couple of steps is the compact but fully equipped kitchen. Here you will find a fridge/freezer, 4 burner gas/electric stove with oven, electric kettle, toaster and microwave. There is also a washing machine. Opening off the living area is a full three piece bathroom, with bath, WC, and wash hand basin. Lots of very hot water, you can luxuriate in welcome warmth after your walks through the village and hills. Also off the living area is a cupboard, with the main water heater, an ironing board and iron, and vacuum cleaner. On the first floor you find the first of two bedrooms, this one with two single beds. The second room on this floor serves as a den and is furnished with a sofa, easy chairs and TV. From this room a French door leads to the private terrace. Returning to the stairs, on the second floor is the master suite, with a double bed, and a comfortable sitting area. There is also a full en-suite bathroom with shower, and heated towel drying bar/ room heater. This room is equipped with air-conditioning/heater. Take a look at the stairs as you go - well-worn wood, and the famous tomette tiles, probably date back to when the house was built. The house comes fully equipped with all crockery, kitchenware and bed and household linen. Please note that because of the nature of the stairs, this property is not suitable for young children or persons with impaired mobility. |

ABOUT
ST CHINIAN AND SURROUNDING AREA We fell in love with our village the moment we saw it - and we are sure that you will too. Within very easy walking distance of the house are the twice weekly markets (Thursday and Sunday), bars and restaurants, bakers, butchers, grocery shops and newsagents. If you have not done so yet, you really must experience this - starting the day with a minute's walk to get your just-baked morning croissant or baguette, and ending it with a quiet stroll (the same length) home after a late evening digestif (the french driving laws are increasingly strict). There are also several banks with ATMs, and a larger supermarket and gas stations on the outskirts. The village has tennis courts, an open-air swimming pool, cycle hire, hairdresser/barber, dry cleaner and excellent medical services. The Languedoc-Roussillon region is a haven for wine lovers, with St Chinian at the heart of the AOC region of the same name. In the village, there are three major wine outlets, where you should take advantage of the expert advice to sample the many wines of the region. Don't forget to include the wonderful Muscat from St Jean de Minervois. In the surrounding area many pastimes will tempt - from the challenge of cycling in the rolling countryside, to a quiet walk beside the Canal du Midi; kayaking the waters of the Orb, to lazing on the beach at Valras. Centuries of history await you, whether the Roman era (the Opidum at Enserune), the middle ages (the Abbey de Fontcaude), or the famous Cathar period (Minerve). Wherever you go, remember that most French businesses close for lunch - an excellent time to sample the wonderful meals awaiting you in every village restaurant. St Chinian is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding towns and villages, the countryside and sights of "the other south of France", making it perfect for a superb holiday at any time of the year. ACCESS St Chinian is on the N-112, about 25 minutes north-west of Beziers. International airports are within easy driving distance - Montpellier (75 mins), Carcassonne (60 mins), Toulouse (2 hours) and Barcelona (3.5 hours). There are railway stations at Beziers (25 mins) and Narbonne (40 mins) with TGV connections to Paris.
