This charming old village house sits directly on the canal, and sleeps a maximum of 4 persons in 2 bedrooms. It has an exquisite protected English garden with terrace, for sunbathing and outside dining. The house is well located for exploring Languedoc - just 20 minutes from the seemingly endless sandy beaches of the Mediterranean, and is 15 minutes from Beziers with magnificent cathedral, lively markets.
Nearest airports are at Beziers, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Montpellier, Nimes, Toulouse (many with direct flights to London Stansted, Frankfurt, Brussels, Paris)

DETAILS OF ACCOMMODATION
The old stone house is located to one side of a blind alley in Poilhes, a listed historic village in the Languedoc.
On the ground floor is a fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker, electric oven, fridge, microwave oven, electric coffee maker, kettle, toaster and a washing machine. It has a dining area leading to a large living room with wood beamed ceiling and chimney. French doors lead to the garden and terrace.
The second floor has two twin bedrooms, each with two beds. There are two bathrooms, one with shower, one with bathtub and electrically heated towel rails, each with WC and wash hand basin.
Maison Poilhes has been decorated with care and finesse, making comfort a high priority, and would not suit very young children. Nonsmokers only!
A washing machine and a micowave are available.

Canal du Midi at Poilhes
POILHES AND SURROUNDING AREA
Poilhes is situated near Oppidum Enserune, a roman hill fort founded originally by the Greeks. Through the village winds the Canal du Midi, built in the mid 1600's, beautifully shaded by tall plane trees, and bordered by numerous vineyards. The Canal du Midi is now a world heritage site (UNESCO).
Local facilities in Poilhes include 1 wine cellar, 1 restaurant, a general store selling fruit, vegetables, and other basic goods, and a tennis court. 5 minutes drive is the fortress church village of Capestang with a large supermarket, more restaurants, which is also on the Canal du Midi.
Just 15 minutes is Beziers, with magnificent cathedral, old city streets festooned with shops, a famed outdoors flower market, as well as large general markets, and in the Summer the city wide Feria with bull fighting, music and dancing in the streets. If its beaches you want - the Mediterranean is only 20 minutes away, with resorts such as Narbonne Plage, Valras Plage, Cap d'Agde, Gruissan (surfing), and Sete. For those seeking historic sights - the famed medieval Cité of Carcassonne is 60 minutes, with nearby abbeys of Caunes in the potent wine region of the Minervois (Minerve), and Limoux, famed for sparkling wine and a month long carnival in early Spring. Castles abound from the heady Peyrepertuse and Queribus guarding both the Cathars and the Spanish border in the foothills of the Pyrenees, to the coastal seemingly modern looking almost subterranean castle at Salses.
The area is perfect for all tastes - from those loving the delights of food - with numerous restaurants to those wanting to taste and buy excellent wine from the many wine caves in almost every village in the area. Walks for all abilities are marked and provide endless days of discovery. Beaches provide sunbathing and swimming in near perfect conditions.
ACCESS
International airports are close and easily accessed: Montpellier, Carcassonne, Perpignan (all 60 mins), Beziers (20 mins), Toulouse (2 hrs), Nimes (80 mins), and Barcelona (3 hrs). Railway stations are at Beziers (15 mins) and Narbonne (20 mins) both with TGV access to Paris. Car rentals are available at both railway stations and the airports.
