DETAILS OF ACCOMMODATION Le Nid is located in the centre of Assignan, a quiet and charming village eight kilometres south-west of Saint-Chinian. It has recently been sensitively restored, preserving much of its original charm and features, whilst adding all modern conveniences. On the ground floor (1st floor for North Americans) you step into the well equipped kitchen, with gas cooker, electric oven, fridge and toaster. The original sink and fireplace have been retained to make beautiful features, and the panelled dining area displays paintings by a local artist. In a cupboard under the stairs there is a washing machine and tumble dryer. Climb the stairs to the first floor (2nd for North Americans) and you reach the comfortably furnished living room with sofa and easy chairs, and the original terra cotta floor tiles lend this room a warm glow. The study corner at the end of the room has been furnished with a small desk and well stocked bookshelves. On this floor is also a shower room with basin and WC. On the second floor (3rd for North Americans) you reach the double bedroom which has been tastefully furnished and decorated, integrating the original floors and exposed beams to their full advantage. Carry on up the stairs to the third floor (4th for North Americans) to the second bedroom. This bedroom is furnished with two single beds and an en-suite shower and separate toilet provide full comfort. The window onto the street affords a spectacular view of the surrounding roofscape, and through the roof light you can watch the stars at night. Le Nid has been fully modernised, and all rooms are provided with electric heaters, for comfort during the winter months. ![]() Another view of kitchen |

Assignan ABOUT ASSIGNAN Assignan is an ancient village first mentioned in 936. Today there are approx. 140 inhabitants and the village has a post office and a variety of daily visiting shops. There is also a communal tennis court which can be used for a small fee. Saint-Chinian, which is only a short drive away, provides all the shops and restaurants. Just a short walk from Le Nid you can find a number of wineries, all of which produce excellent wine (some organic and even biodynamic!), which can be tasted and bought locally. The endless vineyards give rhythm and colour to the undulating hills and valleys throughout the year, from pale green in the spring to the russet and gold colours of the autumn. A little further down the road you will find marked walks, which explore the wonderful open countryside which surrounds Assignan. With its calm and tranquil atmosphere, Assignan is ideally placed for a relaxing holiday, exploring the surrounding garrigue, enjoying the local wine or venturing further afield to explore all the Midi has to offer. ACCESS International airports are at Montpellier (1 hr 30 mins), Carcassonne (45 mins), Toulouse (2 hrs 30 mins) and Barcelona, Spain (3 hrs). The railway stations of Carcassonne and Narbonne are 30 minutes away. |
