cicadas in the little "Maison d'Oc" of the Domaine Saint-Pierre
de Trapel.
This pleasant old gamekeeper's cottage, completely renovated to high standards,
has its own garden with plunge pool, and access to a large swimming pool.
You are just 5 minutes drive from Carcassonne, with easy access to the
airport, and the medieval cité. It is an excellent base to discover
the Languedoc

OF ACCOMMODATION
The perfect place for 2 to 4 people, the "Maison d'Oc" on the
edge of the domain, opens onto a shady private garden with plunge-pool
and barbecue.
Each of the three storeys of the "Maison d'Oc" gives off an
atmosphere of peace and authenticity.
Both bedrooms overlook the beautiful vineyards of the Minervois.
The warm orange-yellows of the upper-storey bedroom blend in perfectly
with the superb open beamed ceiling and teak furniture to give a warm
and radiant feeling.
The first storey is divided between the second bedroom with its
rich reds and acajou furniture, and the marble-tiled bathroom.
The atmosphere of the kitchen-cum-living room on the ground floor
is that of times gone by with its bijoux sink and the stone walls of the
staircase.
Furnishings:
Kitchen area : 3 gas ring cooker with multi-function oven, dish-washer,
washer-dryer, extractor fan, table and chairs.
Living area : sofa, TV, CD/radio-cassette player.
First storey bedroom : South exposure, 15 m2 double bed with 2
bedside tables, small bed-settee, desk and chair, wardrobe, armchair.
Bathroom : wash basin, large tiled shower, WC.
Upper storey bedroom : queen size bed with 2 bedside tables, sitting-room
area with 2 armchairs and a coffee table, a desk and chair, built-in wardrobe,
cabinet, chest of drawers.
2 shaded private parking spaces. Access to the domaine's gardens
and swimming pool.

CARCASSONNE
The magnificent walled cité of Carcassonne, was first fortified
by the Romans, - it was later added on and strengthened during the middle
ages. It was besieged in Charlemagne in 795AD, who withdrew due to the
cunning of Dame Carcass - a Saracen princess. Later it became the center
for Troubadour poets, and then was taken by Simon de Montford in his crusades
against the Cathars. At the end of the 19th century the castle was saved
from extinction by the architect Viollet-le-Duc. Recently it provided
the inspiration for Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty and Kevin Costners Robin
Hood.
THE AREA
The Canal du Midi built in the 1660's borders the Domaine Saint
Pierre de Trapel, - so one can take a bicycle and cycle to the center
of Carcassonne. The canal reaches from Toulouse to Sete - creating a link
between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Recently it has been given
the accolade of a world heritage site by UNESCO. On either side of the
canal run tall plane trees - some dating back 300 years, that provide
the perfect place to picnic, and laze in the shade - whilst watching the
boats cruise by.
To
the north lie the Black Mountains - with abbeys such as at Caunes, splendid
with marble that is found in the surrounding hills, near to are deep magical
caves like the Grotte de Limousis and the 4 castles near Lastours (son
et lumiere in the summer).
To the south is Limoux, home of sparkling white wine -that was the inspiration
for Champagne; and Rennes Le Chateau - a mystical center of controversy
- supposed site of the Holy Grail and other treasures. To the east within
easy reach are the beaches of the Mediterranean, with the lively market
towns potent with history of roman Narbonne, and Beziers (summer bull
fights, and fetes).
ACCESS
La Maison d'Oc and Le Domaine Saint Pierre de Trapel are just northeast
of Carcassonne. Pick up can be arranged at the airport if necessary (flights
to Paris, Brussels, London). Otherwise closest airports are Toulouse (90
minutes), Montpellier (2 and half hours), Perpignan (2 hours). There is
a railway station at Carcassonne (pick up can be arranged). There is no
public transport between the Domaine and the city - so rental cars or
your own transport is recommended

POOL Payment is based on Euro Value - £GPB and $ are only approximate. Bed linen and towels provided. (Changed weekly for stays of over 7 days) Towels for the pool are NOT provided. The price includes all charges. Maximum capacity 4 persons. A 25% deposit is payable upon reservation. In the case of cancellation less than 8 weeks before the date of arrival, the deposit is non returnable. The remaining 75% of the total price is payable on arrival. A 300 Euro guarantee is required upon arrival and returned 8 days after departure. Cleaning during the stay can be arranged : 13 euros an hour. Arrival : from 4 pm to 8:30 pm. Departure : before 10 am. |
